DIY: Hydrating Facial Mist
Hot summer days are here, so we've got to make sure our skin is taken care of -- and that means keeping it fresh and hydrated all summer long. Luckily, you don't have to travel to a humid tropical island or head to the spa to attain happy, glowing, thirst-quenched skin.
Instead, you can put Bali into a bottle with a simple DIY hydrating facial mist recipe! It's cheaper than a plane ticket or a facial and is simple, affordable, and fun to make. This soothing facial mist is the perfect companion for when you're traveling on a plane, in dry environments, or when your face just needs a quick refresher.
What you'll need:
- 8oz of water
- A pot for boiling the water
- 1 peppermint tea bag (Peppermint is wonderful for reducing stress, oily skin, and acne.)
- 1 teaspoon or coconut oil, sweet almond oil, or jojoba oil (We used jojoba oil.)
- 4 drops of lavender essential oil (Lavender smells great and is very relaxing.)
- 2 drops of geranium essential oil (Geranium soothes and promotes clear skin.)
-
1 drop of frankincense essential oil
(Frankincense smells nice with lavender and has anti-inflammatory properties.) - Small spray bottle
(We used a 2 oz glass spray bottle. You can either reuse an old spray bottle or buy one for around $10 online or at just about any market that sells essential oils.)
To make the mist:
- Bring your water to a boil, then steep your tea (as directed on the package).
- Pour the tea into the spray bottle until it is almost full (to about “shoulder height” of the bottle).
- Add the coconut, sweet almond, or jojoba oil.
- Add the essential oils.
- Screw the lid in place and wait for the mixture to cool (if it's not cool already).
- Shake the bottle to mix all of the ingredients and spritz away! (Make sure to shake the bottle before each application to recombine the ingredients.)
